Lactic Acidosis Symptoms

Table of Contents

Lactic acidosis and metformin (Glucophage)

This is an extremely uncommon problem unless you have risk factors.

But, just so you have a list to refer to in case you started to worry about it, here goes:

  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • abdominal pain
  • lack of appetite
  • “malaise”, which means feeling really sick
  • (notice that so far we have described symptoms that could just as well be appendicitis…)
  • difficulty breathing

If you were this sick, you should at least call your primary care doctor, and perhaps even go to the emergency room, maybe even considering going by ambulance. Make sure the doctors know you’re being treated with Glucophageor topiramate. There are simple blood tests to rule out lactic acidosis.
